Finnish sports organisations develop trade promotion lottery functions in co-operation with the Swedish Miljonlotteriet - The role of the Finnish National Lottery, Veikkaus, as the most important sponsor for sports strengthens. Finnish sports organisations will develop trade promotion lottery functions in co-operation with the Swedish Miljonlotteriet. A cartel concerning this co-operation has been signed. Miljonlotteriet has a long experience in executing subscription-based trade promotion lotteries in Sweden. In Finland the new-in-kind trade promotion lotteries will be implemented for the first time in the beginning of the year 2013. The trade promotion lotteries do not compete with lotteries with prize money which are run by Veikkaus. If successful, the profit of the trade promotion lotteries for sports can be approximately 1/100 of the lottery revenue that Veikkaus enters as income for sports through the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture. The biggest sponsor of Finnish sport is Veikkaus. In 2012, the Ministry of Education and Culture shares over 140 million Euros of Veikkaus lottery revenues into sports and physical activity. Finnish Sports organisations agree that the Finnish gaming system guarantees the best possible support for Finnish sports also in the changing circumstances. Finnish sports organisations are very pleased with the role of Veikkaus as a responsible and efficient gaming organiser. The lottery revenues of Veikkaus’ monopoly enable broad arts, science, sports and youth work, both professional and voluntary based, to set the grounds for welfare of all Finns as well as a competitive, vibrant and innovative society. The model based on the Act on the distribution of proceeds is by far the most cost-effective way to maintain and develop the welfare of Finnish citizens and to increase the social capital of the Finnish society.
