Fair Play
Ethical Ideals and Goals for Finnish Sports and Physical Activities in a nutshell
Starting point
The FSF community’s ideals and goals:
Fair Play is a continuous process. Each of us is of equal value. This is true irrespective of our age, sex, place of residence, social standing, health, nationality, mother tongue, ethnic background, religion, sexual orientation or other similar personal traits or life situations. We treat others as we ourselves wish to be treated by others. In sport there are no opponents only friendly competitors. Our operations are based on mutual trust, as well as the laws and statutes that are in place.
Every individual’s equal opportunity to participate in sports and physical activities
The FSF community’s ideals and goals:
Everyone has the right to participate in sports and physical activities. Equality, diversity and fairness are the foundations of our community. We want to develop a diverse environment and atmosphere through active dialogue with all parties and organisations interested in sports and physical activities.
Responsibility for education and upbringing
The FSF community’s ideals and goals:
We are all educators. In practice, there is an educational aspect to every event and situation related to sports and physical activities: training, games, tournament trips, volunteer events and parents’ nights. We educate through example. Our primary motivator is always the best interests of children and youths. We allow ourselves and all others the time to grow and develop according to each person’s own resources. We encourage each and every person to keep learning throughout their lifetime also in the context of sports and physical activities. We encourage and support each person in carrying their share of responsibility for the wellbeing of their group and society as a whole.
Promoting health, safety and wellbeing
The FSF community’s ideals and goals:
All our operations promote health, safety and wellbeing. There is no room for drugs and violence within the sphere of sports and physical activities. We intervene and provide help in cases of physical or psychological problems and work actively to prevent these. We create a safe environment for sports and physical activities. Sports results are not the only measure of an athlete's merits. Anti-doping work is an essential part of our operations.
Respecting nature and striving for sustainable development
The FSF community’s ideals and goals:
We are a part of nature. We preserve our shared environment, as well as advise others on how to do so. Together, we grow to be more respectful of nature and search for a balance between what we do and sustainable development. We participate in endeavours that will lead to a cut in our society’s emissions.
Openness, democracy and fairness
The FSF community’s ideals and goals:
When making any decisions we carefully plan and listen as well as explain the reasoning behind each decision. The rules we use in our decision-making process are available to everyone. We take crimes and misconduct very seriously. However, we believe in people and are willing to give everyone a second chance. We manage our finances so that they are on both a realistic and a sustainable foundation. Cooperation is our inexhaustible resource. We treat each other justly and as equals irrespective of the quality of our relationship with them and a possible shared background.
Fair Play is sports organisations’ common description of good sports and physical activities.
The Ethical Ideals and Goals of Fair Play were adopted at the Finnish Sports Federation’s General Assembly the 20th of November 2010.
Fair Play is intended to live on sport fields and jogging paths, in sport halls, locker rooms, meetings, lobby discussions, letters, events and work places.
