IWG - International Working Group on Women and Sport
The International Working Group on Women and Sport (IWG) is an independent coordinating body consisting of representatives of key government and non-government organizations from different regions of the world. The vision of the IWG is to realize a sustainable sporting culture that enables and values the full involvement of women in every aspect of sport. The mission is to be a catalyst for the advancement and empowerment of women and sport globally.
The IWG secretariat is located in Finland and hosted by Finnish Sports Federation in 2010–2014. IWG Co-Chairs in 2010–2014 are Ms Raija Mattila and Ms Johanna Adriaanse.
IWG was established in 1994 at the 1st World Conference on Women and Sport held in Brighton.
6th IWG World Conference on Women and Sport will be held in Helsinki, Finland on 12 - 15 June 2014
An IWG World Conference on Women and Sport is held every four years. The first World Conference on Women and Sport was held in Brighton in 1994, and the next world conference will be held in Helsinki, Finland in 2014. For information on the last IWG World Conference in Sydney in 2010 click here.
The Finnish Sports Federation has been assigned to chair the International Working Group on Women and Sport (IWG) from 2010 to 2014 and to arrange the IWG World Conference on Women and Sport in Helsinki in 2014.
The conference is to held from June 12-15, 2014 in Helsinki. The conference venue is the Finlandia Hall, located in downtown Helsinki.
